Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a site which lay close to St Paul's Cathedral was carried out. Three Roman cemeteries and some mosaics had been recorded in the near vicinity. A cathedral had first been established on the site of St Paul's in 604 AD, and the proposed redevelopment site lay in the most likely area of early and middle Saxon settlement. The 13th century palace of the Bishop of London may have lain partly on the site. It was concluded that archaeological deposits were likely to exist on at least part of the site, and that an evaluation should be carried out.[AIP] |
