Abstract: |
Five small test-pits were hand dug in the west moat and on the west moat bridge. They were excavated in order to examine the foundations of the existing bridge over the moat and the bridge causeway for engineering purposes. The excavations proved that the moat fills had been entirely removed in the 1909-1910 Office of Works re-excavation of the west moat, unless small pockets had survived in localised depressions in the base of the feature. The bridge abutted both the palace and the moat walls. [Au(adp)] |
