Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was carried out in advance of the proposed development of a wind farm. The assessment comprised a search of pertinent documentary and cartographic records and a field visit. There were no historic or statutorily protected buildings in the vicinity of the site, with the structures on site being of 18th and 20th century date. The World Heritage site of Hadrian's Wall lay within 4km of the study area. The study area remained agricultural land in the post-medieval period. Quarrying and later mining dominated some areas of the site. Earlier activity was thought possible but there was no specific evidence. The proposed development had the potential to impact upon the archaeological resource through the construction of foundations and associated services. [Au(adp)] |
