Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief observed modern surfacing that sealed alluvial horizons. There was no evidence of any associated human activity, or for any presence on the site before the 19th century. In the western part of the basement excavation and along its southern edge two large drainage channels were recorded. These area not conclusively dated, but they clearly form part of the process of land drainage and reclamation and were recorded as such on a map of the late 1860s. The made ground and fill horizons contained occasional late post-medieval finds, including pottery, clay tobacco pipe and fragments of brick or tile. [Au(abr)] |
