Abstract: |
Two trenches were excavated and geotechnical trial pits observed on a site proposed for redevelopment. Structural remains relating to 18th and 19th century houses were revealed. The 18th century buildings on the corner of Wellington Road seemed to have been demolished in the 1930's, whilst the Victorian development of the site was removed much more recently, and a few standing walls remained. Apart from a few stray finds of medieval or later pottery and rooftile, no finds of earlier than 17th century date were recovered. [AIP] |
