Abstract: |
The archaeological evaluation established the presence of nearby cultivation in the later prehistoric and early prehistoric periods, however, no features were recorded. The prehistoric flint assemblage, although residual was the first to be recorded from the town of Colyton. Despite the documented 10th-century origin of the town, no direct evidence of early medieval activity was encountered. The earliest feature found was a late-13th/early 14th-century ditch. However, evidence suggested that there was a high potential for medieval and earlier deposits to survive in situ in the area of the south-eastern bungalow. The north-western area of the site showed evidence of truncation, which may have destroyed earlier features. The earliest features here were two post-medieval (drainage) ditches.[Au(abr)] |
