Abstract: |
<summary>Assessment identified a number of areas and sites of archaeological interest along the proposed route of a road by-pass scheme, including: the Ryknild Street Roman road; an area of crop mark enclosures, pit alignments and ditches at Willington; a complex of crop marks comprising two intersecting pit alignments and indistinct ring-ditch at Buckford Bridge; crop marks of an indistinct curvilinear ditched feature adjacent to two double ring-ditches, and two possible single ring-ditches at Stenson; a number of linear crop marks possibly representing a droveway at Arleston House Farm, Barrow upon Trent; the Swarkestone Lowes Bronze Age Barrow Cemetery (Scheduled Ancient Monument No 41) and crop marks; stretches of north-south and east-west pit alignments, and a number of enclosures at Chellaston Hill; a crop mark enclosure at Elvaston; enclosures and a ring-ditch at Foxcovert Farm; part of the Aston Cursus complex (Scheduled Ancient Monument No 185) and crop marks including a hengiform triple ring-ditch at Hicken's Bridge; and the Lockington-Hemington Barrow Cemetery. The scheme also intersected a number of parish boundaries and had implications for a number of post-medieval industrial sites. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
