Abstract:
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of eight test pits on land near the Northburn Bridge, on either side of the A19 dual carriageway. No archaeological material was found; there was evidence for some significant landscaping of parts of the area in the recent past. The areas examined were not on the best land for agriculture or settlement, and archaeological supervision was recomended if further work was to be carried out. [Au (adp)]
