Abstract: |
The watching brief recorded that the depth of material identified as made-ground, i.e. archaeological deposits, increased significantly in the western, riverward, half of the site. This increase was probably indicative of land reclamation along the waterfront. Similar reclamation was known to have occurred along the east bank of the river downstream of Bristol Bridge throughout the medieval and post-medieval period. Observation of the pile probing had confirmed that there was a considerable depth of archaeological stratification on the site, which included preserved timber. [Au(adp)] |
