Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken as part of Scheduled Monument Consent for an extension to an existing dwelling within the boundary of Portchester Castle. No archaeological features were observed during the limited groundworks. A dump level of around 800mm was seen onto which it was thought that the house was built. A single sherd of tin-glazed pottery dating to the 17th century or early 18th century suggested the deposit was laid down after this time to level up the ground before the house was built.
