Abstract: |
Salvage recording was undertaken at Ryelands Road, Leominster, on the site of the new Kwik-Save Supermarket, during the excavation of the foundations and service trenches. This area lies within the southern suburb of medieval Leominster through which the town defences are thought to have run. Much of the eastern part of the site was occupied by extensive and deep cellarage which had effectively destroyed any archaeological deposits. To the west, however, was an area which, although covered by reinforced concrete, appeared to be relatively undisturbed by modern development. Within this area was found an extensive, deep feature interpreted as part of the medieval town ditch, confirming its anticipated alignment.[AIP]\n\n |
