Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out along the length of the pipeline from the Southend-on-Sea sewage works to the pumping station at Great Wakering. The topsoil was stripped by mechanical excavator and a narrow trench dug for the laying of the pipe. The only features to be found were landfill sites, including one of late 19th century date and recently backfilled field boundary ditches. The last visit was delayed, awaiting the lopping of some tree branches overhanging the route by Shopland Hall Equestrian Centre, before the final length could be excavated. [Au] |
