Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the proposed realignment of Godfrey Way access road. Three trial trenches were placed in the area of the proposed new road alignment. Within the trenches natural gravel was truncated at between 18.92 to 19.15m OD, and was overlain by modern topsoil at c.19.41m OD. No archaeological features or finds were seen. The evaluation had shown that the potential for the survival of horizontal archaeological stratification was less than expected, as a result of modern disturbance probably attributable to the allotments pre-dating the cemetery.
