Abstract: |
One evaluation trench excavated on the eastern extent of the site found no significant archaeology. A subsequent archaeological watching brief on the western side of the site revealed a sequence of deposition from at least the 15th century to the present day. The 15th century deposit was probably the result of stream cleaning and/or the further embanking of the stretch of the now Dover Road leading towards Newgate. A metalled hard-standing was also revealed, the last use of which probably dated from the 17th to early 18th centuries, after which it was allowed to become overgrown. [Au(abr)] |
