Abstract: |
The study demonstrated that the farm lay within an area of known archaeological potential, although the site itself contained no known pre-medieval remains. It had been argued that the farm was likely to represent the site of the medieval Hospital of St James and St John, although no known medieval remains had been identified in either the buildings or the wider area of the site. The report recommended the archaeological evaluation of all areas of ground disturbance prior to the determination of any planning application and a further stage of recoording work on parts of the fabric of the historic farm buildings that were to be altered or obscured.
