Abstract: |
A rapid desk based assessment was undertaken to provide Plymouth City Council with sufficient information on the historical and archaeological aspects of the drill battery at the Royal Marine Barracks, which was due to be demolished. The structure was built between 1881 and 1891 and currently housed the Communications Troop. The potential was recognised that underlying features of archaeological interest may be present which would relate to the early development of the site as a military installation as well as much earlier prehsitoric activity which had been identified on similar sites in the vicinity.
