Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of proposed development on part of the site. Five machine-dug trenches investigated an area covering c.2ha of land. The evaluated area was located close to the southern boundary of the former sewage works and was west of the fishing lake. The potential for Bronze Age deposits alongside the western edge of the little River Lea (now a relict water channel) was confirmed. A Bronze Age ditch and bank were recorded parallel to the river. A layer containing Bronze Age finds sealed another small ditch, which was cut by tree throw pits, this layer may have been a remnant of the prehistoric land surface. [Au(abr)] |
