Abstract:
Three trenches provided evidence for occupation dating from the Romano-British and early medieval periods. These included ditches in Trench 2, which although undated were assigned to the Roman period on the basis of their form. The other features in Trenches 1-3 represented pits, post holes, ditches and surfaces reflecting a short period of occupation in the 12th and 13th centuries, including the remains of a post-built structure in Trench 2. Possible garden features of 16th/17th century date were recorded in Trench 2, associated with ground raising dumps. The medieval features may form part of an early short-lived development along the east site of Beverley, which included recent discoveries at Walkergate School. [Au(abr)]
