Abstract: |
A more extensive map regression exercise was carried out than in the desk-based assessment in order to provide further information on the post-medieval and, where possible, the medieval hamlet of Hatton prior to the proposed development at Hatton Cross. It was concluded that there was no reliable cartographic evidence to aid in the placing of evaluation trenches with the specific intention of discovering remains of the medieval village, although there was some potential for medieval remains across the area of the site. The report recommended that the trenches in the south-western part of the site should be placed in the areas to either side of the southern end of the modern Cranford Lane, in order to investigate the buildings shown on the 18th century maps.
