Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation in advance of an extension to the Tesco Digby store in Exeter was undertaken. Previous excavations in the area, including an evaluation of the site in 2001, had uncovered evidence of Bronze Age funerary monuments, settlement activity and field systems, Iron Age settlement and field systems, and post-medieval field systems and agriculture. A small quantity of pits and post holes were exposed, along with a number of linear ditches. Most of these features could not be confidently dated, but many were likely to be of prehistoric date. Some of the ditches related to two phases of field systems, which had been investigated on the adjacent sites. Other ditches formed part of the historic, post-medieval landscape. [Au(adp)] |
