Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken during the pedestrianization of the east side of Bedford Square and the reduction of the highway to the west to a single carriageway. The foundations of a substantial wall and tiled floor associated with the Abbey Church were revealed which represented a significant contribution towards clarification of the arrangement of the east end of the building, although there was still insufficient information to permit a full understanding of its layout. Post-medieval drains and the floor of a building shown on a map of 1752/3 were also recorded. [Au(adp)] |
