Abstract: |
Post-determination evaluation and subsequent monitoring of the former Charrington's coal yard revealed some evidence of medieval occupation, surviving as scattered pits, although much of the site had been truncated. Soil layers surviving at the rear of the plot near the remains of the town ditch, where the ground level appeared intact, were interpreted as possible medieval layers contemporary with the ditch and bank.
