Abstract: |
Archaeological investigations, comprising fieldwalking and the excavation of 28 machine-cut trenches (representing a 2% sample of the evaluation area), supported by desk-based study, were undertaken to evaluate the archaeological implications of proposed development at Larkhill, Stirling and Alanbrooke Barracks at the Royal School of Artillery, Larkhill. The development area lay within an Area of Archaeological Significance as defined by the Salisbury District Local Plan (Consultation Draft 1992), and just outside the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge and its environs. Overall, recent ground disturbance was found to be limited to specific areas, and no positive traces of archaeological deposits or features were revealed. [Au(adp)] |
