Abstract:		 A documentary survey and visual inspection revealing three principal phases in the archaeology of Great Yard: Roman, medieval and post-medieval. Remains of Roman or earlier periods su rvive but are disrupted and buried by post-Roman alluviation; knowledge of their full extent is uneven. Elements of a medieval landscape in the form of earthworks suggest either ridge and furrow cultivation or components of a system of water channels (including the most substantial feature, a river meander channel). Post-medieval elements are connected primarily with management of the river.\n
