Abstract: |
Salvage recording was carried out at a development site, after the discovery of four disturbed burials within a brick vault. 18th and 19th century pottery was recovered, and further walls relating to vaults were observed during a subsequent watching brief which recorded the excavation of the remaining foundations for the development. A boundary wall, possibly of 18th century date, was also noted. The site had lain on a 19th century graveyard, which had reportedly been cleared in the 1970s; the survival of a small number of burial vaults was probably due to the proximity of a wing of a former school. Archaeological survival was found to be minimal over much of the site, due to the construction of nearby buildings. [AIP] |
