Abstract: |
The excavation comprised the removal of topsoil and agricultural soil by mechanical excavator and the excavation and recoding of revealed archaeological features prior to the construction of a new school and nursery. A number of archaeologically significant features were revealed during the works. These included possible Iron Age enclosure ditches, three hearth/ovens and related post hole structures, medieval and post-medieval agricultural furrows and two Second World War air raid shelters. Pottery and assorted finds from the prehistoric, medieval, post-medieval and early modern periods were recovered. [Au(abr)] |
