Abstract: |
A structural survey of the surviving parts of Sheffield Castle, situated beneath the Castle Market, was undertaken as part of proposals to renovate and display the remains. Two soil sections were recorded and were both found to have been subject to slippage. The first section comprised material of mixed date consisting mostly of modern building debris, whilst the second section comprised seven separate sections and indications of the survival of structural features including a decayed wood beam at the base of the section. The internal and external elevations of the western wall were also surveyed. [AIP] |
