Abstract: |
<summary>A desk-top study of a proposed redevelopment site was undertaken. The site lay close to the Roman wall, the amphitheatre and a fort, and other remains had been excavated in the immediate vicinity. Stray Saxon finds had been recovered, and medieval pits and a well had been recorded. Cartographic evidence showed that the site had been developed since at least the 1560s. The remains of a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the medieval and later Girdlers' Hall, were known to extend across Basinghall Avenue, but apparently not onto the development site. It was concluded that an evaluation would be necessary. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
