Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment and walkover survey was conducted in advance of a proposed site refurbishment and redevelopment. The location of the appraisal site was situated within the core of Chatham. A review of the existing archaeological information and assessment of the degree of ground truncation and disturbance likely to have existed on site related to Modern redevelopment of the area was carried out. It suggested that the site had a low potential for containing surviving archaeological deposits and features earlier than post-medieval on site. The wider study area contained a number of Listed buildings which contributed to the overall historic character of the dockyard town. No Listed buildings were within the study area itself. However the site did contain a Scheduled Ancient Monument (ME321). [Au(adp)] |
