Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a residential development which lay within a spread of brickearth deposits, limited in extent, which had been a valued agricultural resource in the past. Prehistoric flint tools, Iron Age pottery and Roman and Saxon coins had been recovered in the vicinity, and late medieval occupation evidence had been recorded. An initial geophysical survey of the site had identified a number of anomalies interpreted as possible archaeological features. During the evaluation, a single ditch which contained four small pieces of post-medieval brick spall was revealed. It was concluded that this was likely to have been a post-medieval land boundary or drainage ditch. [AIP] |
