Abstract: |
Observation of a trial trench excavated at Warwickshire County Council Bridges Section in April 1997 across the Scheduled bridge built between 1789 and 1793 revealed the structure of the bridge at the apex of the arch with wide side walls and a narrower parapet above. The trench also showed that the original gravel infilling of the bridge had been heavily disturbed by service trenches and that no early road surfaces survived. [Au] |
