Abstract: |
Three evaluation trenches were excavated on a site proposed for redevelopment situated on land which was formerley part of the estate of the medieval Priory of St James. No trace was found of buildings known to have occupied the site by 1742, although a red sandstone wall of a building erected sometime after 1780, a second wall of another building of post-medieval date, and an 18th century cellar were revealed.
