Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken at Nine Ladies, an embanked stone circle protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (and at the time of the survey in the Guardianship of English Heritage) to identifiy the current condition of the monument. The most significant area of erosion was concentrated around the embankment, especially in the vicinty of the individual orthostats. Evidence of bonfires and of tree-felling/lopping was widespread and damage was noted in the form of small elliptical chips removed from the flat top of stone 9. [AIP] |
