Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was carried out during the excavation of footing trenches for two properties. The amount of interpretation could reasonably apply to the site was limited by the scale of the work. However, there were clear signs of early medieval activity on the site with the discovery of a fine occupation layer 0003. Following the deposition of this layer a range of building evidence appeared. The flint foundations, the clay footings (?) and the higher level of natural next to the road were all indications that a property had fronted onto Northgate Street, on this site over a considerable period of time. Whether the earlier evidence related to this, or an adjoining property was unknown. [Au(adp)] |
