Abstract: |
A series of investigations were undertaken along the route of the M3 from Bar End to Compton, identifying features and deposits relating to activity from the Early Bronze Age to the early Romano-British period. An Early Bronze Age cremation burial in a Collared Urn surrounded by a penannular ditch was found. Traces of at least two main phases of funerary activity in the Early-Middle Bronze Age, with both inhumation and cremation burials being placed within the enclosure and the ditch were discovered. Also recorded were pits, post-holes, several circular and four post structures, and a series of lynchets representing later Bronze Age activity; and a series of ditched enclosures, trackways and lynchets of Late Iron Age-early Romano-British date.
