Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out within a 14th century bell tower, where it was proposed to install floors for the storage of books. The tower was thought to have replaced a bastion of the early 13th century town wall. During the evaluation, a sequence of medieval and post-medieval deposits was recorded; artefacts recovered included pottery and a clay pipe stem. It was concluded that an undercroft was unlikely to have existed beneath the tower. [Au(adp)] |
