Abstract: |
A Stage 1 Assessment of the impact of the proposed A426 Rugby Western Bypass on the Cultural Heritage was carried out by the Field Archaeology Section of the Warwickshire Museum. One Scheduled Ancient Monument (WA 5549. Warwickshire Monument No 151) and 53 other archaeological sites were identified in the corridor. Of these, a number of later prehistoric / Romano-British cropmark sites are affected at the south end of the proposed route. Just over half of the proposed route runs along the site of the former L&NWR Rugby and Leamington Branch Railway and a number of 19th century industrial sites are potentially affected at the northern end. No Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas or Registered Parks and Gardens were identified. Recommendations for a Stage 2 Assessment are made in the report.[AIP]\n\n |
