Abstract: |
Two trial trenches were investigated to evaluate the archaeological survival of two of the five limekilns identified from cartographic evidence relating to the Old Chalk Quarry, Saffron Walden. No evidence of the limekilns was found, the indications were that the groundwork involved in the construction of buildings presently on the site may have sufficiently disturbed them as to cause their subsequent partial or total collapse.
