Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of the proposed site of industrial units within an archaeological priority zone was carried out. Remains dating from all periods had previously been found in the surrounding area, and Roman Watling Street lay in close proximity. The site itself was of some historical interest as it was part of the original Vickers Factory where manufacture of Maxim's automatic machine gun commenced. It was concluded that the site had considerable archaeological potential and that further work would be necessary.[AIP] |
