Abstract: |
The cartographic and documentary evidence indicated that there have been buildings on the site of 3-5 The Barbican since at least the second half of the 17th century. Three trial pits were excavated down to the natural deposits. In two of the trial pits no archaeological features or deposits were encountered. In trial pit 3, the same sequence was observed, but slightly earlier deposits were also encountered below. A few sherds of 16th-17th century pottery were recovered attesting to the earlier life of the quay.[Au(abr)] |
