Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out at Marlow Brewery in order to fulfil a condition imposed upon planning consent. The earliest feature on site appeared to be represented by a probable 17th century cess pit. Post-medieval agricultural activity was represented by cultivated soil layers. Certain brick wall and floor deposits appeared to predate the brewery, whilst a larger number could be reconciled with the layout shown on an Ordanance Survey map of 1876. No medieval or 16th century features were present in the watching brief, the limited scope of the work did not preclude that such archaeological deposits might have existed outside of the area observed in this work.
