Abstract: |
Monitoring of pipelaying work through the core of the village revealed six timber piles which were then sent for dendrochronological analysis. Several smaller cross timbers were also found at the top of a peat layer, and it seems that the investigation located a timber structure possibly a major causeway with a corduroy road. This causeway would have crossed the floodplain of the River Blyth but unfortunately no secure date for the structure has yet been obtained. [AIP] |
