Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken on the site of the proposed redevelopment. During the evaluation natural sand deposits were reached in all three test-pits. No peat deposits were present but alluvial material was present in TP3 representing a wet area subject to episodic flooding. It was likely that these inundations were derived from a former course of the Tachbrook Stream near Vincent Square. There was no evidence that the site was utilised prior to the 17th century. The highest part of the eyot was in the north of the site 1.7m OD and had been used for post-medieval cultivation. No significant archaeological remains were revealed. [Au(abr)] |
