Abstract: |
A fieldwalking survey of a proposed development site was carried out. In the surrounding area, a prehistoric flint axe, a ring ditch and undated cropmarks had been recorded. During the survey, a single sherd of medieval pottery and a piece of tile were recovered, representing the only finds contemporary with the ecclesiastic life of nearby Coggeshall Abbey, founded in c. 1140. Three minor concentrations of struck and burnt flint were identified, whilst a linear concentration of post-medieval material may have represented either the line of a field boundary, or relatively recent manure spreading.
