Abstract: |
A desk-based study of the Sammy's Point redevelopment area highlighted the areas importance to the defence, access and control of the port of Hull until the 18th century. Sites within the proposal area included the South Blockhouse and adjacent Saluting Platform (the former built in the 16th century, the latter in the 17th century but both in use until the 19th century) and a number of other ancillary structures. Later 19th-century buildings had also formerly occupied part of the site, although recent demolition works had left the site vacant. [AIP] |
