Abstract: |
Monitoring of the foundation trenches revealed several phases of activity ranging from the early post-medieval period to the 20th century. A large west to east ditch was recorded cutting into the natural clayey silts. A near complete 17th century posset pot was recovered from the fill of this feature. The ditch was sealed by further post-medieval dumping layers which were cut through by a later north to south orientated ditch. More recent activity, most likely 20th century in origin, was consisted of a large concrete trough and its associated construction cut which truncated the majority of the deposits in the southern area of the foundation trenches.
