Abstract: |
Four trenches were excavated to evaluate land proposed for development at Old George Mall. Numerous features and deposits, including a recently robbed well of probable post-medieval date, a chalk-block lined medieval cess pit and associated chalk and flint mortar core walls, and a substantial depth of undisturbed post-medieval garden soil were revealed. Pottery, brick and tile fragements recovered were predominantly of medieval date, with post-medieval and modern items present in the assemblage. Mammal, fish and bird bone, shell, iron and worked flint was also recovered. [Au(adp)] |
