Abstract:
An assessment of the archaeological sites that may be affected by the proposed Bordesley Bypass was undertaken for the Civil Engineering Consultancy of Hereford & Worcester County Council. A desktop study of existing documentary sources was prepared to a base level and collated. Information from a rapid field survey was then integrated with that from the desktop study in order to produce a report. The assessment considered the length of the proposed bypass between the existing roundabout to the west of the Arrow Valley Park and the existing roundabout immediately to the south-east of Cobbs Barn Farm. A number of sites of archaeological interest were located and the assessment identified the need for further archaeological evaluation at three of these: the deserted medieval settlement to the west of Abbey Stadium (HWCM 17), the site of a possible bridge to the south of Bordesley Garage (HWCM 5555), and the fishponds - considered to be associated with Bordesley Abbey - to the south-west of Cobbs Barn Farm (HWCM 1780).[AIP]\n
