Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation was undertaken across 13ha of land at Broom Quarry. This was the second stage of archaeological work which had previously involved evaluation, fieldwalking and geophysical survey and 35ha of excavation. This stage was centred upon two known cropmark ring ditches. The earliest began during the Neolithic and continued into the Early Bronze Age. Other features revealed included a Middle Bronze Age round barrow and a cemetery of over forty cremations, many contained within urns. A small post-built structure, perhaps a shrine or mortuary enclosure of uncertain date, was constructed between the two monuments and five Anglo-Saxon burials were placed to the west and south of the Bronze Age barrow.
