Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to the seeking of planning permission for the residential redevelopment. The report concluded that the two plots lay within an area of archaeological importance and the archaeological potential had two main components; the possible presence of deposits representing the Saxon and medieval manor of Hammarsh, and the possible presence of prehistoric deposits buried deeply beneath alluvium and peat. The site may have had some archaeological potential, but when this was considered in the light of previous development and the impact of the proposed new structures, the impact on archaeological levels was likely to have been slight.
